• Frank Smith LLB (Hons)

    Frank set up the firm after working full time in the legal sector since 2001. Creating the firm was the result of his long held ambition to run his own business.

    Frank was born in Herefordshire and studied law with Italian at Cardiff University and Parma University in Italy. He has worked in Florence and Milan and is a fluent Italian speaker. Frank started his legal career at Wragge & Co (now international law firm Gowling WLG) in Birmingham before moving to Cheltenham in 2006. He was previously a partner and head of department at Rickerbys Harrison Clark LLP and Willans LLP.

    Frank is a nationally recognised legal affairs expert. Independent legal directory Chambers UK recommends him as an expert in his field, and a “much feted property lawyer who represents landowners on conveyancing, easements and maintenance issues”. Legal 500 a leading guide to law firms in the UK recommends him as someone who “provides prompt, professional and trustworthy advice” a “deal maker” and someone who is “knowledgeable, practical and pragmatic”.

  • Allan Burt

    Allan has lived in Gloucestershire all his life and first qualified as a FILEX in 1965.  He qualified as a Licenced Conveyancer in 1988 before setting up his own practice, Redwood Burt in 1991.  Allan continued to work under that practice name until joining Frank and his team as a Partner in 2018.  Allan was appointed a council member of the Council for Licenced Conveyancers in 1994 and is a former chairman (twice) and board member of the Society of Licenced Conveyancers from 1991 until 2002.

    Allan provides exceptional residential and commercial conveyancing advice to our clients and enjoys working as part of a friendly and supportive team.

  • Natalie Smith TEP

    Natalie heads up the Private Client Department and is an experienced private client Solicitor and STEP qualified Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP). Natalie specialises in wills, probate, powers of attorney, estate planning and trusts.

    Natalie achieved a Bsc in Equine Science at Hartpury College before completing a GDL in Law.  After university Natalie completed her training contract with Penleys solicitors in Dursley (which later merged to become WSP Solicitors) and stayed with them upon qualification in 2010.  In 2012 she was awarded young solicitor of the year by the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Law Society (GWILS).  Natalie later worked at Harrison Clark Rickerbys, in both Cheltenham and Hereford, and Lodders Solicitors in both Cheltenham and Stratford upon Avon, before joining Frank Smith & Co Solicitors.

    Natalie prides herself on the way she explains complex and challenging concepts to our clients in a clear and concise manner. Natalie enjoys the variety of work and the varied clients Frank Smith & Co Solicitors offers.


  • Sarah Kay, LLB (Hons), ACILEx

    Sarah has lived in Gloucestershire all her life and first worked in law in 2006 when she worked in the Private Client department at Rickerbys (now Harrison Clark Rickerbys), having obtained her law degree through the Open University. Before training as a paralegal, Sarah worked as a legal secretary for 12 years with Wiggin & Co Solicitors in Cheltenham and before that, in-house at Cheltenham & Gloucester Building Society.

    Sarah was delighted when an opportunity arose to work with Frank and his team. In Sarah’s words “I feel honoured to be part of such a professional and caring team. It is a joy to go to work every day and be part of the firm".

  • Matthew Baker, LLB (Hons)

    Matthew joined Frank Smith & Co Solicitors after obtaining his law degree from Cardiff University.

    Having grown up in Gloucestershire, Matthew was delighted with the opportunity to join the team and to start his legal career in the heart of Cheltenham. He said he was drawn to work for Frank Smith & Co Solicitors due to the unique, personable, friendly and supportive nature of this firm.

    Matthew enjoys the variety of legal work at the firm and aims to provide first-class legal assistance to all of our varied clients.

  • Ruth Swenson

    Ruth has lived in Gloucestershire since 1989, having relocated from South Wales where she trained and started her career as a medical secretary.  After 26 years working for the NHS, Ruth embarked on a period of self-employment, before joining Frank Smith and Co Solicitors in 2018.

    Ruth is delighted to be undertaking the role of Receptionist/Legal Secretary in such a friendly and professional firm and is enjoying working in a legal environment.

    Ruth aims to assist the team by providing top quality and efficient completion of administrative and secretarial tasks. Ruth also provides a friendly and welcoming first point of contact at reception for our clients and visitors to the office.

  • Steve Tasker, FCMA, CGMA

    Steve is a Chartered Management Accountant specialising in assisting new businesses with their financial and operational processes as they grow and prosper.

    Born and educated in the southern part of Gloucestershire, Steve has over 40 years’ experience working with small to medium sized businesses in numerous sectors including Financial Services and the Legal Sector.

    Steve has been working with Frank since his first year of practice ensuring that the firm’s administrative and financial systems are fit for purpose and can cope with the rapid growth being enjoyed by the firm.

    Steve is a regulated Member in Practice of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. In the words of one delegate at a recent business show in Bristol, “So, you’re more than just an accountant……” sums him up nicely.
